This month the Featured Artist is Ben Nicholson.I have recently obtained some etchings by Nicholson. They are canceled prints so as such, there is a canceled line drawn through the image, possibly by the artist himself. Consequently the etchings are not signed and are inexpensive.
Ben Nicholson was the son of the distinguished painter, Sir William Nicholson. He met Christopher Wood in 1925, and with him met the naive painter Alfred Wallis on a visit to Cornwall in 1928. In 1932, he visited Paris with the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, and they married in 1934. During this period he also met Mondrian and Moholy-Nagy, and his work from this time show their influences as Nicholson developed his own distinctive style. He mainly showed at Waddington galleries, London.
