BROWN, Ralph
Ralph Brown British1928- Sculptor. Born in Leeds, Yorkshire. Studied at Leeds School of Art 1948-51, Hammersmith School of Art 1951-2 and the Royal College of Art 1952-6. He was awarded a scholarship to study with Ossip Zadkine in Paris, and another for study in Greece. In 1957 he was sponsored by Henry Moore for a scholarship to study in Italy, and also worked in Cannes making mosaic panels for Picasso. He taught at the RCA. In 1988 he held a major Retrospective Exhibition at the Henry Moore Centre, Leeds City Art Gallery, and also at the University of Warwick Arts Centre. Since 1953 his work has also been included in a large number of Major Group exhibitions in the UK, Continental Europe and the USA and Japan. Solo Exhibitions include the Leicester Galleries, Browse & Darby, Archer Gallery in London and the Beaux Arts in Bath. His work can be seen in Public collections such as Aberdeen Art Gallery, Council of Great Britain, Royal Academy of Arts, Leeds City Art Gallery, Rijksmuseum and Salzburg State Museum.
