GABO, Naum
NAUM GABO Russian 1890- Sculptor. Born in Russia, brother of A.Pevsner. He attended medical school and art classes. Just prior to World War One, Gabo visited a brother in Paris who was living there as an artist. At the outbreak of war, the two brothers went to Oslo.It was there that Gabo started producing art. They both returned to Russia in 1917. By 1922 Gabo decided to move to Berlin. He had contacts with artists in the Bauhaus and the members of the de Stijl movement. In 1930, Gabo had his first one man show called 'Konstruktive Plastic' in the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover. He moved to Paris in the early thirties and played a major role in founding the Abstraction-Création movement. In 1938 Gabo visited the USA and settled there permanently in 1946. He lived in Connecticut and was the visiting Professor to Harvard University from 1953-54
