MACKENZIE, James Hamilton

JAMES HAMILTON MACKENZIE.
Scottish 1875-1926
Painter, watercolourist and etcher. Born in Glasgow and educated at the Glasgow School of Art under Newberry. As a student he held a local government scholarship for three years and in 1898 he won the Haldene Travelling Scholarship. With this he travelled to Italy and studied at the Instituto de Belli Arti in Florence, returning to Glasgow in 1901. He was elected a member of the Glasgow Art Club in 1901, of which he was President at the time of his election to associate membership of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1923.
Mackenzie was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy and in elsewhere in Glasgow. Hamilton Mackenzie tragically died in 1926 in a train accident.
